Yoko Takahashi was raised in environment surrounded by music. She started learning the piano at the age of 2. At 8, she joined the Boy's and Girl's Choir. In 1987, she took part in the tour of the J-pop singer, Toshinobu Kubota, as a supporting member. Since then, she took part in many tours and live recordings of many J-pop artists including Yumi Matsutou. In order to expand her career, she performed in commercials and took vocal lessons. In 1991, she released her debut single, P.S. I Miss You, which was the theme song to the drama series, Aitai Toki ni Anata wa Inai (When I Want to Meet You, You Are Not Here).

With a long history of singles since 1991, Yoko Takahashi is still releasing singles in 2009. Her most current single is Cruel Angel's Thesis 2009 version, which is the remake of the opening theme to the popular anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion. This single has sold roughly 110,000 copies, which is around double the number of copies that the original version (the first version she sang) sold in 1995. Currently, she belongs to the company, Funky Jam, along with Toshinobu Kubuto, Daisuke Mori, and Rinko Urashima. Her brother, Go Takahashi, and his wife, Arimi Matsuno, are also in music industry.
